Assembly Bill No. 1234, Chapter 700, was enacted on October 7, 2005. AB 1234 requires that if a local agency provides any type of compensation, salary, or stipend to, or reimburses the expenses of a member of its 'legislative body' (as that term is defined in California Government Code Section 54952), that local agency's officials must receive training in ethics.

Ethics Training. The Board does hereby establish an ethics-training schedule in compliance with the law. Each Trustee is required to receive two hours of such training every two years. The District Executive Assistant/Clerk of the Board shall advise the Trustees of eligible training events and shall assist in compliance.
